The Edge of Love

More meaningful entries to come ...  Meantime, this trailer is pretty.

I love Matthew Rhys (Kevin on Brothers and Sisters) and he, along with Cillian Murphy, Keira Knightly and Sienna Miller are in this movie.  I think I might have to see it.

This is what the hooplah is about!

Mileyvanity
Here is the Miley Cyrus photo that is causing a stir.  Um ... what?  There is nothing racy about this.  Sorry.  I expected far worse than this.  What is up with this conservative time we are in?  Geez.

Lioness

Lioness One more suggestion for what to do with your weekend.  Last night, I saw the one and only film that I am seeing at The Tribeca FIlm Festival.  The film is a documentary called Lioness and it tells the story of five women who served together for a year in Iraq. These women made up the core of the group dubbed "Team Lioness" by their commanders.  The film is beautifully shot and really gives a different pov on the war in Iraq.  I have been seeing films left and right lately because next week we begin running IFP's Documentary Rough Cut Lab.  We are watching 10 documentaries total so we are trying to watch 1-2 a day.  I do not have any brain cells left.  So  I am climbing into bed.

10 Years Of Arts Engine Films

N11822494682_6345 This weekend, The Paley Center (formerly The Museum of Television and Radio) will be screening all ten of Arts Engine's films.  (Arts Engine is where I work FYI.)  It's hard to believe that I've been there 6 years but it is true.  I will be around all day on Sunday.  If you have no idea what flick you want to see, I of course could make suggestions (off line of course).  But for now, check out this link and watch a short video of our best of.

Not For Me

I was reading the blog of a person I don't know. I usually like her blog but every once in a while it is a bit too "precious" for me. I was unsure why. After today's entry, I know what it is.

She calls people "yummy". All the time.

And well, I think calling anyone over 18 "yummy" is cheesy.

I just do.

Whew. Glad I figured that out.

Thoughts on Toronto

I am here for a shoot for the Asexuals movie and luckily the shoot coincides with The Hot Docs Film Festival, a documentary film festival. The first shoot went really well. I interviewed Elizabeth Abbott who wrote A History of Celibacy. She was really smart, well spoken and got me thinking about a lot of different things. Next up is Anthony Boegart who did a major study on asexuality. He is based two hours away from Toronto so we are in for a long drive manana.

I am having some more conflict with a work situation and on Wednesday we are going to have another “talk”. I work a bunch of different projects at my job and this is the one that has taken up a majority of my time. I just don’t know how badly I want to resolve this situation. I am unhappy and tired of being unhappy on this project. I don’t want to walk away because that's not who I am. But I may have to. Can’t get too much more into it than that.

I’ve seen a lot of films while here. It has been pretty great. So far I’ve seen:

-Emoticons (dir by Heddy Honigmann): I love her but this film, about Dutch teenagers who spend a lot of time on the internet, felt slight somehow. Her films are pretty heady and focus on many people engaging in the same seemingly mundane task that, after the film moves along, grows in significance. This concept works usually but not this time. Not sure why.
-Kids + Money (dir by Lauren Greenfield): This was a ½ hour short before Emoticons. I love Greenfield’s photography. Though this film, which will show on HBO at some point, was entertaining, it seemed like she was making fun of some of her subjects in a way that felt kind of glib. Still, it is pretty entertaining.
-Beyond the Frey (dir. Luke Walker and Melissa Maclean): I am obsessed with cult movies and this one is about a cult in Australia. It was great and juicy.
-Life.Support.Music (dir Eric Daniel Metzgar): This was my favorite film that I have seen here. It was about a guitar player who has a brain hemmorage and his incredible road to recovery. At the Q and A, the filmmaker said that this is a film about optomism and that is really true. It was so moving and gives you faith in the human spirit. You should see this when it comes to a theater near you. It is coming to Boston next. I think I want to see this director's first movie, The Chances of The World Changing.

Some random facts about my time here:

-Boy Toronto is multi culti. It is great!
-There are a lot of couples that consist of hot women of color and ok white men.
-Toronto has it all over New York when it comes to being a green city.
-I am staying at an amazing Super 8 and I was put in a suite because the regular rooms were taken. It is a pretty hot room.

That’s all for now.

Empty calories is …

A margarita. I am not going to have one of those again for a while. Goodness. Back to a glass of wine.

Something I Am Proud Of

Last Monday I shot a PSA for GLSEN for The National Day of Silence, which is April 25th. I did not know much about the day until I met with the folks at GLSEN to get the project together. From GLSEN's site: "The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s event will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression."

The project came together pretty quickly and I am just glad that I was able to direct it. My dance card has been pretty full lately but I decided that whatever I needed to put aside to do this, I was going to do it! I loved every minute of working on it and the kids were amazing. The shoot day was one of those days where I knew I was doing exactly what I should be doing with my life.

I don't have any Lance Bass gossip. (Sorry guys!) He couldn't have been nicer. Hope you enjoy it!

This is the 60 second version that gives you a good overview about the day. It is more somber in tone.

This is shorter version. Some say it is more upbeat.

    Celebrity Sightings

    • Christina Applegate and Chole Sevigny
at the BWE 100th episode party. They are both so blonde. That color blonde that does not exist in real life but only with chemical enhancement. They're beautiful though.
    • Melba Moore
in the airport in Nairobi, Kenya! We smiled at each other over Nescafe (aka coffee).
    • Parker Posey
at Murray's Bagels. She looked really punk rock.
    • Jessica Lange and Sam Shephard
at A History of Violence at Cinema Village. They were so cute and followed us everywhere from the movies to Cedar Tavern and back to the movies. They probably thought we were following them.
    • Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kodjoe
pushing their baby down 13th Street. I was having a meeting at Cosi around the corner from my overcrowded office. I looked out the window and there they were. They stopped in front of my window and were doing the, who should take the baby conversation. I was trying to listen to the person talking to me but I could not and she was not the type of person who would understand my distraction by these celebs. They are both really attractive but almost too much so. His sneakers were new. His jeans were new. It was weird. I like imperfection.
    • Joshua Redman
running on 18th Street. I realized that I've seen him many times before and just did not realize it. He was smaller than I thought he's be but I guess most people are.
    • Patti Smith
which was not a big deal to me but my friend Marina apparently sees her all the time. This was her fourth sighting. I said she should say something like, "I see you everywhere. We should hang out." Marina wouldn't take the bait.
    • Leonardo DiCaprio
with Isha on our way to the PATH station on 9th Street and 6th Ave. He is very tall but as my friend says, one cheeseburger away from being fat. His bodyguard "subtely" was wearing a jogging suit next to him. I guess they exercise together. He wasn't so hot to me but another girl flipped out when she saw him so what do I know.
    • Sam Rockwell and Liev Schreiber
on New Year's Eve but you gotta buy me a few drinks to hear that story.
    • John Turturro
in Union Square looking tall and handsome. I’ve always had a strange little crush on him.
    • Holly Hunter
on University with Isha who sees her all the time. Well, I was psyched. She's buff!
    • Jennifer Connelly & Paul Bettany
Father's Day while I was power walking in Prospect Park. I knew that they lived in Brooklyn and hoped one day that I would run into them. I have a big crush on Paul Bettany. He's got that sexy ugly thing going on. Their children are attractive and he has that "buff for a film" look to him. It made a crummy day better.
    • Wendy Moniz
at City Bakery where I always see celebs! She is on The Guardian which I love and is really short and really pregnant in real life. She also looks really Latina which they try to make her not look on TV.
    • Liv Tyler
on my way to the edit room on Horatio walking her dog. She is very pretty. I can't hate.
    • Chris Noth
with Isha on 9th Street getting into a really nice car that I can not identify because I am not a car person with a really attractive South Asian woman
    • Gloria Reuben
with Isha while eating brunch at Motto in the East Village
